We are all presently doing our best to social distance to combat the spread of the Covid-19 virus. But what is that doing to our bodies? We as humans crave social interaction. We need it. Conducting via virtual visual happy hours, game nights or dinner parties can help. The visual cues we get from these interactions help us confirm the person we are speaking with is okay.
Researchers found links to higher inflammation by analyzing a series of studies. Increased levels of C-reactive protein, a marker of inflammation, was found consistently in these studies. The researchers concluded that social isolation adversely affects our immune system. This study should serve as a reminder to stay as socially connect as possible during our time sheltering in place.
